Kurt Merriman
My yoga journey started almost 20 years ago at The Yoga Garden. Yoga changed my mind and then my mind has changed my body. I have a regular local practice and I seek out studios wherever we travel across the US and around the world. I consider myself a “yoga mutt”, picking up unique poses and learning the nuances of posture and form over a variety of yoga genres. In 2023 I received my 200-hour teaching certification from 8 Limbs in Seattle. I have also completed the Roll Model Method certification from Jill Miller’s Tune Up Fitness program, focusing on the use of therapy balls for myofascial release, pain relief and self-care. I teach gentle, yin and vinyasa classes and offer workshops on the use of therapy balls for self-care to help with stress and pain relief and to improve mobility.
Using fundamental Pilates movement techniques, we'll properly engage the core and other deep stabilizers, articulate the spine, and use the breath to support movements. The result is greater flexibility, muscle toning, better posture, more efficient movements and a body/mind connection. We will add balls, weights and bands as a challenge for overall fitness.

Holding Space for Death, Dying and the practice of Being Human
"Birth and Death are the most singular events we experience-and the contemplation of death, as of birth, should be a thing of beauty, not ignobility" Jacob Javits
I
It is my honor to hold space around the often difficult and taboo topic of death and dying. With over 30 years of medical experience as a Registered Nurse, I continue to witness firsthand, from both patients and medical professionals, the denial, disconnect and fearful approach to death in our culture.
With a desire to create a positive change and with the loving intention to hold space for patients, in a way that honors death as a personal experience for each individual, in 2022 I became certified as a Death Doula through "Going with Grace".
The most profound shift I have experienced personally since completing this training, is a deeper sense of curiosity around the unknown and significantly less fear in general, which enables me to experience more inner peace and ease in life. It is with this sense of curiosity and ability to hold a sacred container, that I am honored to provide space within community to explore feelings, experiences and fears around death and dying.
As we process through some of our fears in community, the hope is that with the knowledge and acceptance that we, as well as everyone we love will one day die, we may live our lives with a greater sense of inner peace, presence and maybe even start to view death as a natural and beautiful process.
This topic may seem daunting to some. Exploration into what keeps you living in fear may seem intense. If you are curious about this topic, trust into that curiosity. Together, as a community, we will create a sacred container to explore our personal experiences, our emotions and our fears in relation to death and dying. This workshop will be deeply nourishing, supportive, liberating and healing.
The workshop will include gentle movement, journal writing, talking circle, guided meditation and restorative yoga.
Please bring a journal and a pen and any significant items to place on the alter in honoring of loved ones who have passed as well as honoring your own personal journey. Tea and light snack provided.

The Sanskrit word for yoga is “yuj” meaning “to yoke” or “join”. The practice of Yoga aims to integrate the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of oneself. The union of self is a journey inward, but ultimately shapes how we interact with others and how we contribute to the energy of the collective.
Yoga is a metaphor for life. The physical practice on our mats, is an offering to allow ourselves to unfold, to feel into ourselves and to gain insight, to deepen our connection with self, others and our unique purpose.
The practice of Asana, (the physical postures) is one aspect of the yoga journey. Whether you are new to the practice of yoga, or have been practicing for years, come explore a deeper understanding of what it means to practice yoga off of the mat.
Join Michelle Gorman for an evening exploring the first two limbs of the yoga journey, The Yamas and Niyamas are considered the ethical precepts or core values of yoga.
